The key word to the entire clan mentality is cooperation. For anyone who has played MMORPG games before, we all know that the power on any server is generated by the unity of those involved in playing it. On a PvP server, it's even more important to be able to work well with the others in your clan. An epic NPC monster is tough, created by devs to take you out...but it isn't nearly the same as a raiding party of player-controlled enemies, with the ingenuity and creativity that we are capable of using. Our strength will come from our ability to cooperate effectively, and that includes many other areas. Not everyone will be able to work with everyone else, that's an inherent part of human interaction. But everyone should be able to follow the right routes to get problems resolved.
If you have an issue with a fellow clanmate, your first course of action is to calm down, collect your thoughts, and approach that person with the problem, and what you both could do to resolve it. That keeps the problem private, without anyone else knowing that there was even an issue.
If that doesn't work, get a couple other people involved. Differing opinions and perspectives on a situation often reveal solutions that evaded us at the beginning, and can go a long way toward getting a problem worked out.
If there's still a problem, look to an officer for help. Clanmates will be put in those positions to mediate for their fellow clan members who may have issues. Hopefully this situation won't need to happen frequently, because it often involves an executive decision that someone isn't going to be happy about.
All told, every problem has a solution, and by cooperating, and not getting stressed out...it will be found.
It may be necessary to set rules to guide the clan, but at this point in time, I don't see the need to set anything in stone. Obviously the game's terms of service cover all the primary points. Don't make any real life threats, don't cut loose with a string of profanity at anyone else, don't cheat, don't hack, etc. etc. Everyone knows them, and knows not to do them.
Upon release of the game, we'll put our collective heads together and set diplomatic terms with the other clans we interact with. Everyone will be required to follow the terms we've set with other clans unless they are in direct contact with a senior officer. Racially, I think it's pretty safe to say that all Humans / Elves / Dwarves and Alfar are fair game...so...tear their throats out. Mahirim and Orks are racially allied, so for the sake of argument, leave them be...at least at the beginning, until we get a working knowledge of our diplomatic stand, and the stands of other Mahirim/Ork clans.
If you are attacked by a Mahirim/Ork, whether the aggressor is tagged or untagged, you are free to defend yourself, although the best possible course of action is to make note of the attacker's name and clan, and get clear of the fight. We'll be putting together a reference for those clans we're at war with so there won't be any confusion. We are NOT random player killers, and won't attack Mahirim/Orks without provocation. Our official clan stance is neutral, meaning...we do what is best for our clan. Offending clans will engage in diplomatic resolution, or our gears of war will turn. Attacking a member of ATS is attacking the entire clan.
This subject will be revised as we get more info relating to diplomacy.
Don't hesitate to voice your opinions.
